Scream Franchise: Harvey Weinstein Sends Mixed Messages

While attending the Zurich Film Festival, Harvey Weinstein has spoken to Indiewire about the much-talked-about possible fifth entry into the Scream franchise.

“Everyone lived in Scream 4," he said, before adding that he wants his brother and collaborator Bob "to do the [fifth] movie and just end it. We’ve milked that cow.”

For so many years the Scream saga seemed to be dead, with the utterly terrible third movie killing any interest that anybody had in the further adventures of Sydney and co. But 2011's Scre4m (*sigh*) really kicked some life back into the slasher-series, bringing back a lot of the self-depricating wit and likability that the third movie had so sorely missed. It also had probably the best ending that the genre had seen for decades.

Unfortunately it carried on for a good fifteen minutes after that ending, and delivered another, shittier ending, but still...

"Eh, what are you to do, right?"

Speaking of wanting to end the story, and the cow being milked, Harv then went on to discuss his plans for a Scream TV series. Of course he did.

The series, to be written by Jay Beattie and Dan Dworkin is, according to Weinstein, "supposed to represent a new beginning and also pursue a supernatural direction."

So what is it, Harvey, wanting to end the franchise, or wanting to start a TV series?

Fans of Ghostface can at least rest easy that there's bound to be some form of new Scream action heading our way soon.

Wait, did he just say a supernatural direction...?
