O'Mara - I Want To Return To Who

Kate O'Mara has told Digital Spy that she would love to return to Doctor Who.

The star, now 74, played amoral Time Lord scientist The Rani in two serials in the 80s, alongside Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy's Doctors.

Says the iconic actress: "I would love to come back! I have white hair now, but a lot of it, and I'm still very glamorous and so I won't disappoint, I hope! I'll still be wearing the tight leather trousers and high-heel boots, regardless of what age! That's what the fans are expecting, so that's what you've got to give them."

She's still got it

Despite the fact that both her previous serials were dreadful (McCoy's debut adventure Time And The Rani being especially worthy of derision), O'Mara herself was utterly captivating in the show (and not just because of those trousers...) - over-the-top, camp, ludicrous, but always watchable. So it's no surprise that the character has been rumoured for a return ever since Who first returned to the screens in 2005, with Zoe Lucker and Gillian Anderson previously linked (without any evidence at all) with the role in the tabloids. And it seems that even now no mysterious female role can be introduced to the show without the internet blazing with speculation that she is in fact The Rani (albeit ironically).

But if The Rani were ever to return, it would pretty much have to be O'Mara donning the leather. Anything else would feel wrong.

She also plays Bonnie Langford better than Bonnie Langford ever did

Make it happen, Moff.
