Weiner Talks Mad Men Split Season

Mad Men head-honcho Matt Weiner has been talking to USA Today about the frustrating and creatively questionable decision to split the final season of Mad Men into two seven-episode chunks.

On why the decision was made, Weiner says it was due to "what happened with Breaking Bad. You can see why."

The decision to split the final season of Breaking Bad did pay dividends for AMC, it must be admitted, with the split in the final season allowing for some dramatic cliffhangers, and some truly impressive ratings, although Weiner admits that Mad Men's stablemate has ratings "that I don't think we'll ever see, drawing it out like that."

With its more thematic, bigger-picture style of season-long narratives, it's hard to see how splitting the season will do anything other than hurt Mad Men.

But Weiner remains optimistc, finishing by saying "I only think of it creatively and it's a challenge."

Miley Cyrus Talks Breaking Bad. Seriously.

Singing Disney munchkin-turned-slut explosion Miley Cyrus has been talking to Rolling Stone about Breaking Bad.

Oh...Oh God...

Firmly cementing her VMA-spearheaded position as America's moral compass, the singer has said of the show:

"America is just so weird in what they think is right and wrong. Like, I was watching Breaking Bad the other day, and they were cooking meth.

"I could literally cook meth because of that show. It's a how-to. And then they bleeped out the word 'fuck'.

"And I'm like, really? They killed a guy, and disintegrated his body in acid, but you're not allowed to say 'fuck'?

The horrifying strumpet went on to compare the show to her own dignified and classy performances [. . .], saying:  "It's like when they bleeped 'molly' [from 'We Can't Stop'] at the VMAs. Look what I'm doing up here right now, and you're going to bleep out 'molly'? Whatever."

Putting aside the clearly batshit notion that Breaking Bad could teach you how to meth (and the even more clearly batshit source), there's actually kinda a point there. It's a bit silly that, if anything, it's the swearing that upsets the American censors.

And when Miley Cyrus is telling you that the system is weird, you know you've gone astray somewhere...

Breaking Bad's final episode airs this Sunday on AMC in the US, and is available on Netflix in the UK from Monday.

Supernatural Season 9 Poster Unveiled

The CW have released a poster for the upcoming ninth season of Supernatural.

The poster shows the Winchester Brothers, as well as angel Cas and demon Crowley, against the backdrop of the fall of the angels, as depicted in the cliffhanging finale to the eighth season.

The season will see our team battling Abbadon as she attempts to win over the fallen angels.

Starring Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, Misha Collins and Mark Sheppard, Supernatural Season 9 begins on the 8th of October on the CW in the US. Sky Living will show the season in the UK, though no date has yet been set.

Chewbacca-gain?

A casting call via Spotlight has set alight specualtion that Chewbacca may be returning for Episode VII.

The website is asking for a "male, 7 ft to 7.3 ft tall with a slim/thin build and upright posture, not too worked out or too 'thick set' especially in the shoulders" for an untitled studio project with a 2014 start, helmed by J.J. Abrams, Kathleen Kennedy, Bryan Burk and Tommy Harper.

It's obvious that the film is Star Wars, but what of the role?

Physically it sounds like they're casting for a Wookie, and since original Chewie actor Peter Mayhew was 7 ft 3, many are speculating that they are casting for Chewbacca himself.

That said, there's no confirmation that this is a Wookie, let alone Chewbacca - it could be for any new type of space creature.

But with Han, Luke and Leia expected to return, it would be odd to not see Chewie alongside them.

Behind the Candelabra, Breaking Bad Take Home Emmys, Thrones And Mad Men Leave Empty-Handed

Breaking Bad took home the award for Best Drama for the first time in an interesting - and often unpredictable - night at the Emmy Awards.

While Vince Gilligan's meth drama scooped the big prize, the show's two leads, Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul, both lost out in the acting catagories, with Anna Gunn picking up the shows only other award.

Jeff Daniels secured the Best Actor award, in a surprising but very welcome moment. Daniels plays the crotchety but idealistic Will McAvoy in Aaron Sorkin's criminally underrated The Newsroom on HBO/Sky Atlantic, and it really is fantastic to see the show get some credit after being unjustly panned by critics.


The biggest surprise in the Drama catagories was the complete lack of any prize for Mad Men or Game Of Thrones, both of which have been critical and ratings hits over the last few years.

The comedy catagories proved less surprising, with Modern Family once again being the big winner, while Jim Parsons and Julia Louis-Drefuss were awarded the top acting honours.

In the mini-series catagory, HBO's Liberace biopic Behind The Candelabra was the standout winner, not only claiming the top prize, but also securing wins for Michael Douglas as leading actor and Steven Soderbergh for directing.
The awards were the subject of controversy before they even began, with the son of Quincy and Odd Couple star Jack Klugman - who sadly passed away this year - quite rightly blasting the show for planning a tribute to Glee star Cory Monteith while completely omitting any tribute to his father, who was an iconic figure in television for decades, rather than a supporting player in just one show for four seasons. We're not suggesting that Monteith didn't deserve tribute, but to honour him over Klugman seems like a massive show of disrespect to the history of the medium that the awards celebrate.

Troll Hunter Gets English Language Remake

Cult Norwegian 'found footage' flick Troll Hunter is to receive the ramke treatment, it has been revealed.

The well-received 2010 monster movie is being produced by Chris Columbus, from a script by Marc Haimes, according to Deadline. Dog Soldiers and Game Of Thrones director Neil Marshall has been linked with the project.

Deadline also reports that producers are looking for a male lead who has not previously been associated with the horror genre.

English language remakes are not an inherently bad thing - the recent re-adaptation of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo immediately springing to mind - but this whole project feels a bit... pointless.

The original movie is so tied in to Troll myths specific to Norway that changing the location of the story is presumably out of the question. So given that the setting will likely be the same, making the actors Brits or Americans playing Norwegian characters, it's hard to imagine what could be gained (other than more lowest-common-denominator viewers who are put off by subtitles) by redoing the film. Especially since recent movies like The Raid are showing that subtitles are becoming far less of a deterrent to box office success.

And "Raaaawwwrrrr!!!!" translates the same in any language

Production is slated to begin early next year.

Guest Star For Christmas Special Revealed

We've finally got some information on who will be appearing alongside Matt Smith and Jenna Coleman in this year's Christmas Special of Doctor Who.

This leaked image reveals that Orla Brady is amongst the cast for the as-yet-untitled episode, Matt's final one as The Doctor.

The Irish actress is probably best known to Cult fans as Elizabeth Bishop in Fringe, although she has a long list of television credits on both sides of the pond.

The photo also reveals that Nick Briggs will be in the episode, but since he's the voice of pretty much every monster on the show at this point, that's hardly a surprise.
